What does Orbit gum cost? We checked 1,060 prices across 23 chains
From ₪9.90 to ₪15 for the same bottle — and the difference is not the gum
Gum is the perfect impulse buy: small, seemingly cheap, and picked up at the till without a thought. Which is exactly why it is one of the products people overpay for most.
What we measured
We took Orbit spearmint in the bottle (barcode 4009900412117) — same pack, same barcode — and checked its price on 16 August 2026 in every branch that sells it. That came to 1,060 active prices across 29 chains.
For each chain we took the median price, and only for chains with five or more branches, so that a one-off promotion in a single shop cannot speak for a whole chain. That left 23 chains.
The result: ₪10.70 against ₪15
Cheapest: Rami Levy and Osher Ad at ₪10.70. Dearest: Paz Yellow at ₪15. A 40% gap on exactly the same bottle. The cheapest single branch in the measurement sold it for ₪9.90.
In between, in order: Yochananof and Good Pharm ₪10.90, Shufersal Deal and Mahsanei Hashuk ₪11.90, Victory ₪12.50, Super-Pharm and Shufersal Sheli ₪12.90, Wolt ₪13.50, Shufersal Express ₪13.90, Dor Alon ₪14.90.
The pattern: it is not the gum, it is the format
Look at who sits at the bottom of that list and who sits at the top. Below — discounters and large supermarkets. Above — petrol stations, convenience shops, express formats and delivery. These are not "expensive chains", they are businesses selling convenience, and gum by the till is precisely the product you pay the premium on.
It also explains the spread inside one chain: at Dor Alon the same bottle sold between ₪10.90 and ₪14.90 across 117 branches. A motorway forecourt and a neighbourhood shop of the same chain do not price alike.
We checked the peppermint version too (barcode 4009900412087) across 948 prices — exactly the same picture, ₪10.70 to ₪15. So this is not about one flavour.
What to do about it
Nobody should drive anywhere for gum — the gap is ₪4. But the general rule is worth far more: anything bought at a petrol station, a convenience shop or a quick-stop till carries that same premium, across all products and not just this one.
The simple move: small items you buy regularly — gum, batteries, drinks, snacks — belong in the weekly shop rather than on the way. Same basket, 30 to 40 per cent different price.
